Our range includes Meranti, Western Red Cedar, Primex (laminated / finger-jointed pre-primed Pine), and Kiln Dried Hardwood (KDHWD).

meranti   Meranti

Name – Meranti, Red, Light (Shorea spp.)
Characteristics:
• It is not subject to warping or twisting.
• It is PROTIM™ treated which prevents insect attack, rot and decay.
• It has good nailing, screwing and gluing properties.
• It has an even medium to coarse texture with an interlocking grain.
• Meranti is a hardwood – strong and durable.

Appearance – Meranti varies in colour from white to pale pink to dark red, or pale brown to deep brown.
Surface Finishes – It readily accepts varnish, paint or stain.

 

 

 primex Pine (Primex) 

Laminated / Finger-Jointed Pine
Name – Pine, Radiata (Pinus radiata),
Characteristics:
• It is not subject to warping or twisting.
• It is LOSP treated which prevents insect attack, rot and decay.
• It has satisfactory nailing, screwing and gluing properties.
• It has a fine texture with a usually straight grain.
• Pine is a softwood – however in a laminated / finger-jointed state, it becomes a strong and durable product.

Appearance – Pine in its natural state varies in colour from pale cream to light brown to pinkish brown.
Surface Finishes – It readily accepts paint and provides a beautiful end result due to the pre-primed finish. It is not suitable for staining, for the same reason.

 

 

cedar  Cedar

Name – Cedar, Red, Western (Thuja plicata)
Characteristics:
• It is not subject to warping or twisting.
• It is naturally resistant to insect attack, rot and decay.
• It has good nailing, screwing and gluing properties.
• It has a fine texture with a straight grain.
• Cedar is a softwood – care is needed.

Appearance – Cedar varies in colour from white to pink-brown to red to brown.
Surface Finishes – It readily accepts varnish, paint or stain and provides a beautiful finish.

 

 

KDHW KD Hardwood 

KD Hardwood is taken from Victorian forests under Government regulations.
Name - Kiln Dried Hardwood (Victorian or Alpine Ash) two visually identical Eucalypt species – E. Regnans and E. Delagensis.
Characteristics:
• not subject to warping or twisting.
• Australian sustainable timber.
• good nailing, screwing and gluing properties.
• straight grain with consistent colour.
• we supply only Medium Feature grade KDHW, excluding our glass door stiles which use select grade.


Appearance - Pale pink to straw
Surface Finishes - For a contemporary finish KD Hardwood/Victorian Ash is most suited to varnish. It can be painted, stained or polished.
